About Masjid an-Nabawi

Masjid an-Nabawi (the Prophet’s Mosque) is the second holiest mosque in Islam after Masjid al-Haram, sitting in the heart of Madinah in Saudi Arabia. It was built by the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) after his hijrah from Makkah in 622 CE (1 AH). He (ﷺ) said of it: "One prayer in this mosque of mine is better than a thousand prayers elsewhere, except for Masjid al-Haram."

The mosque now accommodates more than a million worshippers at peak times during the Hajj season and the holy month of Ramadan. Its noble minarets, vast courtyards, and the iconic Green Dome over the Sacred Chamber are recognized by Muslims around the world.

The Sacred Chamber and the Rawdah

The Sacred Chamber (Hujrah Sharifah) houses the graves of the Prophet (ﷺ) and his two companions Abu Bakr as-Siddiq and Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with them). It is covered by the Green Dome — perhaps the most beloved sight in all of Madinah — and surrounded by the original walls of the Prophet’s home.

Between the Prophet’s grave (ﷺ) and his minbar lies the Rawdah Sharifah, which the Prophet (ﷺ) described as "a garden from the gardens of Paradise." Pilgrims time their visits carefully to pray inside the Rawdah, and this live broadcast offers views of Masjid an-Nabawi 24 hours a day.
